What’s in a name?

The name Pyre & Plane initially started from the two-part collaboration between James and his wife Tracey, a skilled pyrographer (pyra = fire, graphos = writing/drawing). A plane is a traditional woodworking tool that, while has had many modern adaptations, has remained the same in essence for over a thousand years. This relationship between wood and fire is as primal to us as air and water. So while paying homage to an ancient craft, Pyre & Plane’s goal is to look at the foundation of the past as steady footing to test the waters and boundaries of future innovation in design. What started out with wood-burned cutting boards for Christmas gifts has developed into a life project.

And you are invited into the journey.
